I just relocated here about 2 months ago from San Diego. Therefore,
my impressions may be somewhat limited. However, I can say that the
Thousand Oaks area is very nice and very family-oriented. The surrounding
hills are beautiful and the beach is only 12 miles away. Coming from back
in the midwest, you may find that the housing prices are a little steep.
Thousand Oaks (aka T.O.) is very suburban and is very active in preserving
the land. There are growth control mechanisms in place so the home/mall
builders do not carve up the beautiful landscape. This is quite a refreshing
change from San Diego. From T.O. places like Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo
are a short drive up the coast and well worth it. People are very involved with
the community. They drive a little crazy on the freeway but that is a minor hassle.
Traffic around this area is never a problem EXCEPT if you are commuting into LA in
the morning and/or home from LA in the evening.
Overall, I am very happy that we relocated. I am really pleased with the area.
